What Is CBD

CBD is a chemical compound taken from the Cannabis Sativa plant. This plant is a member of the family of Cannabaceae plants. Another plant you might be familiar with, Humulus lupulus, is also from that family. 

Humulus lupulus is the plant that hops come from. Therefore, CBD and hops are close cousins. Hops are the main ingredient used in beer.  

Though it comes from the same plant as marijuana, CBD has quite different effects. The supplement is known by some for its calming, pain-reducing, and sleep-inducing qualities. 

CBD products with less than 0.3% of THC are legal in all US states. Any more than that and it is illegal unless you live in one of the 18 states that have legalized marijuana use recreationally. 

Where CBD Beer Came From 

We can thank Dads & Dudes Breweria for the invention of CBD beer. In 2016, their brewery got federal approval for their brew from the ATTTB. They got lucky because today the FDA is dragging its feet again on CBD regulation.

This endorsement that Dads & Dudes holds is extremely valuable. In 2019 they sold out to a company called Cannabiniers. They are making it possible to sell much more CBD beer, maybe even in Canada at some point. 

Like marijuana laws, just because the regulations aren’t there federally, doesn’t mean CBD can’t be sold in many states. Several companies in Oregon sell CBD products. Keeping it within the state is a nonissue so far. 

CBD Beer Won’t Make You High

The first thing you should know about CBD beer or any other CBD products is that they will not make you high. CBDs properties are quite different from their partying cousin THC. 

While THC might make you feel anxious, paranoid, or even a little paralyzed, CBD can’t do any of that. CBD is known for its relaxing properties that make you feel less worried or upset. 

The reason THC gets you high is that it triggers your body’s CB1 receptors. When this happens, people tend to feel euphoric. CBD cannot trigger those sensors, so it has some of the same benefits without the high.

People commonly report feeling energized, balanced, happy, calm, and healthy after taking CBD.  

CBD Beer Might Not Make You Drunk

Depending on the types of CBD beer you buy, they may have low alcohol content. CBD beers made by Dads & Dudes have a 6 ABV to 5 mg CBD. Most CBD brews are leaning toward the CBD aspect versus the ABV. 

The company Cannabiniers created a non-alcoholic CBD beer in California. Beers that are reliant on their CBD effects seem to have more of an appeal to consumers. 

This makes sense because CBD and marijuana users tend to drink less. This strategy gives drinkers the taste of beer with only CBD benefits, and no hangover. 

Other Effects of CBD Beer

Beyond relaxation, there are a few more effects of CBD beers that you may find beneficial. 

For one, it’s speculated that CBD can prevent disease and cell damage. CBD might protect against alcohol-related cell damage that can lead to cancer or pancreatic disease. 

It may also reduce blood alcohol levels. More research is necessary, but CBD can likely save you from getting too drunk. Additionally, it may reduce addictive behaviors like alcohol addiction. 

Some research has also been done to suggest that CBD can alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms. It may improve your sleep habits and keep you calm during the day. 

Many cannabis products, including marijuana, claim to have similar benefits. One of those products is CBN and CBN beer. If you like CBD, you might also like CBN infused products. 

CBD Beer Is Comparatively Inexpensive

If you’ve bought CBD before, you know that it doesn’t come cheap. You can see the difference in price between CBD-infused snacks versus regular snacks. Luckily, this difference isn’t so bad when it comes to beer. 

One popular brand, Hops & Hemp sells its four-pack of CBD-infused beer for $17. Most CBD beers you can find for around $5 to $7 each.

Compared to your average beer that can seem expensive but in the world of IPAs and craft beers, it’s pretty standard. 

CBD Beer Isn’t Always legal

Unless you live somewhere that marijuana or CBD is legal, CBD beers may not be available to you. Though, even if it is legal, it’s still unlikely that you’ll find it at your local liquor store. 

Enforcement around the legality of CBD is lax at best, but many stores still choose to abide by the FDA’s rules. Unless you live in California, Colorado, or Oregon you’ll have a hard time getting your hands on this beverage.
